The Halloween PR Stunt of the Year

Thank you 'Buzz in a Box' agency! They have joined the current trend to promote a brand by including its highest competitor. Kit Kat had the same idea when it challenged Oreo to a game of Tic Tac Toe on Twitter earlier this year.

Pepsi, the drinks giant issued an ad through this agency showing a can of Pepsi 'spookily dressed' as Coca-Cola for Halloween. Not only does it remind us of a haunting Little Red Riding Hood analogy, it also cleverly utilises the extreme rivalry between these two giant brands (at Pepsi's advantage)!

I'm sure Coca-Cola didn't even mind that much - it was free advertising for them.

Well done Buzz in a Box...

A winning opportunity to support people with rheumatoid arthritis

The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society is giving people the chance to win cash prizes of up to £25,000, whilst helping a worthy cause, by joining the Unity Lottery.

With the National Lottery price increase to £2, NRAS lottery is a great alternative and offers a higher chance of winning. The cost is £1 every week to receive a unique six digit number, with 50p of that going towards NRAS. A lottery draw takes place every week with prizes from £5 to £25,000 up for grabs.

Tracey Hancock, Director of Development at NRAS said: “We are delighted to be joining with Unity Lottery to raise funds for NRAS and give our supporters a chance to win a generous prize too. As a small charity that receives no government funding to provide our frontline services, we rely on fundraising activities such as this to ensure we can continue to reach all those who come to us for information, support and help in living with rheumatoid arthritis.”

Richard Dixon, managing director of Sterling, said: "I know from personal experience the effect that rheumatoid arthritis can have and am extremely proud to be working with NRAS and helping them raise money to continue the great work they do helping people with the disease."
For more information on how to join the NRAS lottery contact the fundraising team at fundraising@nras.org.uk or call 0845 458 3969.

If you would like a lottery form to complete, email Bronwen@nras.org.uk.To find out more about the Unity Lottery scheme go to www.unitylottery.co.uk.

National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society

So you are now looking at the new Media and Communications officer at the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). Hi!

The last few weeks have been so interesting. Coming from an agency background into the charity sector, I am feeling very excited to start making a difference in the world of RA.

NRAS is the only charity in the UK providing support, information and advocacy for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, their families, friends and carers. It is also a resource for health professionals with an interest in rheumatology and work closely with rheumatology teams across the UK.

The media profile of the charity needs expanding on both a national and a local front. With our volunteer network and group meetings all over the UK taking place, it is important that local journalists know about the NRAS groups in their area. There is an estimated 650,000 people living with RA in the UK and NRAS currently holds just over 4000 members. The potential for growth at NRAS is tremendous. Wouldn't it be great if everyone living with the disease in the UK knew that they could embrace incredible support, knowledge and advocacy from the hardworking team here at NRAS?

I am always looking for case studies and stories to feature in our NRAS magazine so if this post jumps out at you, please do contact me on daniela@nras.org.uk.

Thank you x

Jackpot Joy 'relish' the idea of another PR stunt!

Remember JackpotJoy's last stunt? (That's probably because it was only last month) - the giant rubber duck on the River Thames. Granted, it did cheer up the city of London and bring a bit of laughter to a wet and windy day but I do think the mantra, quality not quantity, should apply here. Now, JackpotJoy has planned a second (way more complicated stunt) - turning the gherkin into a REAL gherkin...

I may be being a little rash, because it is only a picture stunt at the moment, but it really wouldn't surprise me if they attempted to make this a reality. Can you imagine being told by your boss that you had to go spend the next few weeks wrapping the gherkin in green cling film..? The staff are going to get themselves into a right pickle about this one! They'll end up turning more sour than the vegetable itself.. (Ok I'm stopping)

Michael Saunders, Managing Director of Jackpotjoy.com, adds: “It’s been a long and rather miserable winter and we felt everyone was in dire need of cheering up again! The Gherkin is such an iconic building and with a name like that we just couldn’t resist the opportunity for some more daft fun by attempting to transform it into the very thing it is so aptly named after! It would make for a hilarious and spectacular sight that we’re certain would spread a lot of smiles and laughter across the capital.”

Will they or won't they..? I guess we will all stay tuned to find out.

The Power of Social Media - Truffle PR

Today I had a great opportunity to go to Soho, London and visit the friendly team at Truffle PR; a boutique Public Relations agency owned by Ellie Hernaman.
In a great location with an inviting and creative office, this boutique company encapsulates everything that a modern PR company requires. Their passion for the social media and what it can do for brands is very relevant to today's lifestyle and culture.
Take The Special K's, for example. An up and coming band that Truffle PR supports. In juxtaposition with great press in the papers and online, Truffle are constantly tweeting about the band's success and re-tweeting the likes of Caggie Dunlop (Made in Chelsea star), who is a supporter of the band.
Their passion for Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter is fundamental to the success of their brands. Got Wood, an underwear brand by Wildhorse clothing, has reached 4000 followers on twitter. That is 4000 people reading about their brand, yet it costs them nothing..
More PR companies need to realise the importance of the social media, because it really is the future...
